A show in the burbs! Exploring two very different approaches to pop music. I’ve been doing production work on new CDs by both Leyder Chapman (Dos 4) and Carlos Xavier. On July 11, I’ll be backing both of them up along with Chris Trinidad(Bass) and Colin Douglas(Drums).
In his second album, Derek Smith tears it up on both vibraphone and steel pan and “pays tribute to legendary musicians who developed the infectious rhythms and sounds that have come to define Latin jazz.” I lay down the piano and rhodes along with Aaron Germain(Bass), Colin Douglas(Percussion/Drums) and Mike Shannon(Drums). We’ll be playing some shows June 12 & 13 at the D’vine Jazz Club in Morgan Hill to celebrate.
Dos Four y Los Mios is playing this benefit for DJ Domino… Bayonics and many others will be there too.
On May 8, I’ll be playing with Lina G. Torio debuting tunes off of her soon to be released solo CD. “A familiar face and unequivocally gorgeous voice, Lina conveys the knowledge and style of Puerto Rican musical folklore as well as her swinging talents as a pregonera, lead singer. Lina sings with La Familia Son, Rumbache, Las Bomberas de la Bahia and various Latin groups in the Bay Area.” “Her new CD, Mestiza, introduces the concept of primba – contemporary arrangements mixing elements of timba and prince. Torio’s debut CD features a mix of Latin, soul, rock and urban funk with an original repertoire in celebration of social consciousness and the human spirit and in effort to keep live music live. Lina brings a hard hitting live show featuring top musicians from Omaya, the Marcus Shelby Quartet, Etta James, Lauryn Hill, QBA, Saoco, Rumbache and Fito Reinoso”-La Peña
Tonight Dos 4 y Los Mios celebrates 1 year of bringing down the house every thursday night in North Beach at Mojito. The crowds keep growing- and we’ve been refining our sound… Salsa and Reggaeton a lo cubano (cuban style).
On Nov. 13th Bat Makumba is throwing a party at the Great American Music Hall to celebrate a great new CD release, “Boteco”. We’ll be touring the west coast in oct./nov, including a big Halloween bash in Portland. More details here. Here’s the official release party:
